Walk into any store. Pick up any product.

"Natural." "Pure." "Herbal." "Chemical-free."

It's on everything. But what does it actually mean? Honestly — in most cases, nothing. There are no rules in India around using these words. Any brand can print "natural" on the label and legally get away with it.

So let me tell you what I actually look for. And what I avoid.

First — everything is a chemical

Water is a chemical. Vitamin C is a chemical. The word "chemical-free" is technically meaningless. What people usually mean is "free from harsh or harmful chemicals." That's a fair concern. But call it what it is.

The ingredients that actually matter to avoid

SLS — Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. This is what makes most soaps and body washes lather aggressively. It works, but it strips your skin's natural moisture along with the dirt. After washing, if your skin feels tight or squeaky — that's SLS doing its job too well. All Raw Magic soaps and body washes are SLS-free.

Parabens. These are preservatives used in most cosmetics. The concern is that they can mimic hormones in the body over long-term use. The science is still debated, but I personally choose to avoid them. All Raw Magic products are paraben-free.

Mineral oil. Cheap, widely used, sits on top of skin without absorbing. Creates that heavy, occlusive feeling. We don't use it.

What "natural" should actually mean

Using plant-based oils and butters — things like shea butter, mango butter, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, almond oil. These come from nature, your skin recognises them, and they actually absorb.

Using ingredients with a purpose. Not just filling a formula with cheap filler and calling it natural because one ingredient in the list comes from a plant.

Being honest about what's in the product. If something needs a preservative to stay safe — like our Aloe Vera Gel, which is water-based — I use one and I tell you. A water-based product without a preservative will grow bacteria within days. That's not natural, that's just unsafe.

What Raw Magic actually promises

No SLS. No parabens. No mineral oil. No harmful chemicals. Plant-based oils and butters as the main working ingredients. And honest labelling — what's inside is what's on the label.

I'm a research scientist by background. I've worked in pharma for nearly a decade. I'm not going to put something on your skin that I wouldn't use on mine.

That's what natural means to me.
